Last weekend was the Port Coquitlam River & Trails Festival! While I was stuck at home with a sick kiddo, My husband and the rest of the kids did make it out to have some fun on an otherwise stormy day. I wrote about their exploits over here.
One of the activities they had for the kids was a nature project. They learned how to take care of and make their own worm bins! My daughter was so up for that! So guess what now lives outside her bedroom window?
Yep, you guessed it! Worms!!!!
She makes sure to add some raw fruit every other day, and so far the worms look pretty happy! Today they got to enjoy some left over banana from breakfast. Oh, the pampered life of my daughter’s pet worms!
Speaking of compost, the City of Port Coquitlam was honoured today, receiving a first place trophy for “Best Practices – Leadership & Innovation Award category for large urban municipalities (recognizing environmental leadership)” from the Union of BC Municipalities annual award ceremony in Vancouver. This tip of the hat was due to our Port Coquitlam’s efforts to reduce our communities waste output. Congratulations to them! Together we are creating a healthier community growing gardeners!
